Rams flock to Derby

The first Derby Ram Trail sculptures have arrived at Bondholder intu Derby and are ready to be painted by the chosen artists.

The delivery of the rams marked a pivotal point in the project as Bondholder Derby Museums took over the painting space on Albion Walk in the intu centre. Artists will take up residence in the space to start working on their designs, which have been chosen and commissioned by the sponsors helping bring this free public art trail to Derby.

Jen Cuadrado, Head of Fundraising at Derby Museums said: “With only 14 weeks to go until the Ram Trail opens to the public, this is a great time to pop down to intu to see the rams being decorated. Take a sneak peek as the designs develop – you might even be lucky enough to see some of the artists in action!”

The Derby Ram Trail is a spectacular free discovery trail coming to Derby in the summer of 2020. From 19th June to 28th August, a flock of fabulously colourful and unique ram sculptures, each decorated by a different artist, will take you on a trail around the beautiful city of Derby.

After ten weeks on public display around the city, the rams will be brought together for a ‘ram-union’; a final celebration weekend that will take place from 4th-6th September at Derby Museums on the Wardwick. The rams will then be auctioned off on the 10th September by TV Auctioneer Charles Hanson.

The Derby Ram Trail is being brought to Derby by Derby Museums together with Wild in Art and Presenting Partner Bondholder Cathedral Quarter Business Improvement District (BID). All proceeds from the trail will be matched pound-for-pound by the National Lottery Heritage Fund to create a £2 million Endowment Fund for Derby Museums to help secure its long term future.
