YMCA Derbyshire launches Christmas appeal
YMCA Derbyshire has launched its 2020 Christmas appeal to help it continue to support young people who find themselves homeless.
The Derby-based charity currently provides a safe place to live for 190 people every night.
It also supports 66 students enrolled within their YMCA Key College provision, as well as helping many individuals and families across Derbyshire.
Since the coronavirus crisis started, the charity has seen many young people, individuals and families experience food poverty, unemployment and poor mental health.
Its Christmas appeal will enable the charity to provide warm meals, extra support and diversionary activities throughout the festive season.
Last year, YMCA Derbyshire’s Christmas Campaign was supported by businesses, individuals, churches and schools throughout the city.
As a result of the money raised, 300 people were provided with meals throughout the festive period, with many coming together at YMCA’s main campus on Christmas Day to share a three-course meal.
In addition, four families who were facing a Christmas with no food or presents for their children, were provided with a hamper and gifts.
This Christmas, YMCA Derbyshire is expecting demand for its services to be even greater due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.
There are a variety of ways businesses can raise funds for young people this year including Jolly Jumper day, Christmas Card Swaps and mini virtual events.
