E4E in work experience plea after celebrating learners

Enterprise4Education, an organisation which helps young people raise their career aspirations, is calling on more firms to come forward to offer work experience.

The Derby City Council-led public/private sector partnership, is urging more companies to offer student placements.

According to E4E, placements do not have to be limited to the traditional week-long ‘in the office’ work experience (although that is also welcome).

It could be anything from a simple meet and greet with staff, through to working on a joint student-employer project, related to some aspects of work.

The plea comes after E4E recognised its learners and supporters at its Derby City Raising Aspirations Awards event.

Taking place online due to the coronavirus pandemic, the awards were streamed live to more than 500 viewers across the globe, with relatives of finalists tuning in from Pakistan, Dubai, France and even Alaska.

Local schoolteachers entered more than 150 students for the award that best suited their achievements, skills and talents.

The eight awards celebrated success and progress, community spirit, resourcefulness, achievement, ambition and progress despite adversities faced.

Three schools were also chosen for their best practice in embedding careers activities into their school programmes and preparing students for the world of work.

Local employer volunteers were also recognised for their support in raising aspirations, and from more than 600 employer volunteers who deliver E4E careers activities, three individuals were recognised for their outstanding contributions.

E4E manager Arshad Iqbal said: “I’m really proud that we held this event when the world around young people had shut down.

“At a time of severe uncertainties, cancellations and restrictions on young people and on holding events, we had to really push to make this celebration happen.

“All our local schools, employers and especially our young people deserve the recognition. We all needed a platform for us to come together and share some joy.”
