Nightingale Quarter wins Deal of the Year

The team involved in the deal which led to the regeneration of the former Derbyshire Royal Infirmary site finally getting off the drawing board has won a regional award.

At the recent Midlands Residential Property Awards 2020, organised by Insider, the team comprising Wavensmere Homes, Cedar Group, Urban Exposure, and BBS Capital, won the Deal of the Year title.

For many years, the old DRI site stood vacant and ready to be developed. Last year, work finally began on 800 homes at the site, known as the Nightingale Quarter, after £43 million was secured. Recently, work has been completed on the first phase of properties.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, a physical awards ceremony could not take place. Instead, Insider decided to push ahead and honour the key projects, people and businesses in the Midlands' residential sector.

Commenting on the Deal of the Year winners, judges said: “We have to take our hats off to the team behind this. The fact they'd found a solution to get one of the biggest regeneration sites in the UK away, when many previous attempts had failed, was a real achievement.”

The first phase of the 18-acre Nightingale Quarter development consists of 125 properties, almost all of which have been sold. Work has also recently started on creating the roads around the site.

The second phase is expected to be released later this year, while all 800 homes are due to be completed within the next five years.

As well as providing new homes, the Nightingale Quarter will offer a ‘green oasis’ for residents, including cycle routes, an open-air gym and fitness area, children’s play areas and planting throughout the site.

The DRI’s iconic pepper pot buildings are being retained for community use, with residents having access to facilities including a café, gym, exhibition space and meeting rooms.
