Museum launches Ram Trail schoolkids competition
Derby Museums has launched a cross-school art competition as part of the Derby Ram Trail.
Together with its education sponsors Rolls-Royce, it is inviting up to 80 Derby city schools, colleges and home educators, to take part, giving pupils the opportunity to get their own ‘mini ram’ on a trail around the Museum and Art Gallery.
The Mini Ram Trail will complement the main Derby Ram Trail, a spectacular free public art installation coming to Derby in summer 2021.
The 2020 trail was postponed due to Covid-19 and will now run from 27th May to 22nd August 2021, bringing a flock of 30 colourful and unique five-foot tall rams to create a free public walking sculpture trail around the city.
The schools art competition will have the theme of ‘What is important to me, right now’.
A downloadable resource pack is now available from the Derby Ram Trail website, which includes a template for youngsters to design their own ram in 2D.
Schools will then judge their pupil’s designs in school and determine which young artists will be invited to paint up one of the mini 20cm 3D rams that will be entered into a cross-school competition being judged in May.
Derby Museums will then shortlist up to 30 rams to put in a Mini Ram Trail at Derby Museum and Art Gallery, alongside contemporary artists and high-profile exhibits for 12 weeks on public display.
