Bondholder Derby College Group (DCG) will hold its first virtual open day of the new academic year to mark Colleges Week 2020.

The online open day on Thursday 22nd October will include interactive information, videos and live chat rooms manned by teaching and support staff between 5pm and 7pm who are available to help young people and adult learners consider their options for September 2021.

The focus for the virtual open day will be study programmes available at the Joseph Wright Centre, which are as follows: A-Levels, Access to Higher Education, Adult Maths & English, Applied Science, Art & Design, Creative Media, Computer Science & Digital, Digital Multi-Media, Fashion Business & Retail, Games Design, GCSE Maths & English, Music and Performing Arts.

There will also be a number of support areas available via live chat, which are: Apprenticeships, Careers, Employer Academies, ESOL, Higher Education, Inclusion & Support Services (Including Deaf Access), Student Services, Student Support Fund and Work Experience.

This will be followed by virtual open days for study programmes based at Broomfield Hall on Wednesday 4th November; The Roundhouse on Thursday 12th November and The Community College, Ilkeston on Thursday 26th November.

Pre-registration is required for all these events by visiting this page.

The event coincides with Colleges Week which celebrates how colleges build communities, boost businesses and support individuals.

DCG Vice Principal Kate Martin said: “A key theme for this year’s Colleges Week is how we have responded to the challenges thrown up by COVID-19. In normal times, we would be welcoming thousands of young people and adult learners through the doors at open days where they can discuss their future career plans and the most suitable study programmes to help them achieve these goals.

“Such events are obviously not possible in these times but the virtual open days are a great way to have the same interaction with our teams and explore the same information as they would face to face from the comfort of their own homes.”

Colleges Week is part of the national Love Our Colleges campaign and is a partnership between Association of Colleges (AoC), National Union of Students (NUS), Association of College and School Leaders (ASCL), University of Colleges Union (UCU), GMB, TUC, National Education Union (NEU) and UNISON.
