Bondholder trentbarton has congratulated its driver Karen Miles for receiving a Covid BEM (British Empire Medal) award in the Queen’s birthday honours.

Karen, who drives the red arrow and lives in Littleover, volunteered to work throughout the pandemic and has supported the wellbeing of her fellow drivers.

She said: “It’s an absolute honour. And it is really a thank you to everyone who has worked through. It is for the team who worked so well together and recognises all we did to get our customers where they needed to be.”

Karen, who will be taking her husband Steve to the award ceremony, is part way through mental health and wellbeing training. She said: “It was good to be able to help my fellow drivers. They know they can come and talk to me and we can share what we have experienced.”

Jeff Counsell, managing director at trentbarton, said: “This is a huge accolade for Karen. She epitomises all that is great about our drivers, who have diligently served their communities throughout the coronavirus pandemic.

“Karen has really been there for her customers when they most needed her. And she has been there for her fellow drivers too, supporting them throughout lockdown and beyond. During the pandemic everyone at trentbarton has and continues to play their part to ensure that we are here when our community needs us and our key workers have been protected.

“It has been wonderful to see the whole team pulling together including the driving team, engineers, back office staff and local depot teams. We couldn’t be prouder of Karen and the whole team.”
