Derby Cathedral shines as international awards finalist

Bondholder Derby Cathedral is in a prestigious list of locations shortlisted for the 2016 Lighting Design Awards which also includes the Australian War Memorial in Canberra, Australia; the Sayner Huette Foundry in Bendorf, Germany; and the Saraye Ameriha Boutique Hotel in Kashan, Iran.

Derby Cathedral has been shortlisted for the Heritage Project of the Year category which covers period buildings, churches and places of worship. Previous winners of the award include Trinity Hall at the University of Cambridge and King’s Cross Square, London.

The international awards, now celebrating their 40th year, will be decided by an impressive judging panel of esteemed professionals from around the globe including New York-based lighting and design pioneer, Howard Brandston as head judge; Head of School of Design at Victoria University, New Zealand, Professor Margaret Petty; and the Chair of Architecture at Cardiff University, Professor Richard Weston.

A spokesperson from the Lighting Design Awards organisers said: “Winning is the ultimate accolade of achievement.”

The awards ceremony takes place on Thursday 5 May at the London Hilton Park Lane which will be attended by 1,000 top designers and suppliers.
