Bollywood Bowled Over…
Filming of the forthcoming biopic about the former Indian cricket captain Mohammad Azharuddin is expected to take place in Derby at the end of the month.
Derbyshire County Cricket Club is now in “advanced talks” with the producers of the upcoming film, Azhar.
Bollywood actor Emraan Hashmi has been cast in the lead role and will be in the city, along with 129 other cast members and crew, if filming goes ahead at the ground.
The movie, due to be released in May, will take viewers through Azharuddin's journey, from being a famed cricketer to then being terms a traitor.
Azharuddin led the Indian cricket team for most of the 90s – in 1991 he scored 2,016 first-class runs for Derbyshire at an average of a shade under 60. He scored seven centuries and ten fifties that sumer, as well as a further 500 runs in one-day matches.
Azhar, which is directed by Tony D'Souza and produced by Balaji Motion Pictures and MSM Motion Pictures, is due for worldwide released on May 13th, 2016.
