Motor manufacturing giant and Bondholder Toyota Motor Manufacturing (UK) has announced company history has been made as it started building two models simultaneously at the firm's factory in Burnaston.

As the first Toyota factory outside of Japan to simultaneously build two cars, the company described it as an “unprecedented challenge.”

The two car models, Auris and Avensis, is each undergoing much more than a simple facelift: chassis and interiors have been revised and powertrains include new diesel engines that have been sourced from BMW and modified by Toyota.

“By taking on the challenge of building two new models at the same time we have made history – and I’m very proud about that.”
— Tony Walker, Deputy Managing Director at Toyota Motor Manufacturing (UK)

It is likely that Toyota will be building these cars for three to five years before a refresh, so this adds further confidence to job security at the Burnaston Factory.
