£6.1bn Deal Lands in Derby
Bondholder Rolls-Royce secured a deal worth a record £6.1bn in April, to supply Emirates Airlines with engines for 50 double-decker Airbus A380 planes. The aerospace giant has now confirmed that production for these engines will take place in its Derby HQ.
When the deal was first announced, it was believed that a majority of the assembly would take place at its engineering base in Singapore. However, this week the company confirmed that work on the Trent 900 engines would commence in Derby.
This announcement strengthens the aerospace icon’s commitment to the city and its local supply chain.
Rolls-Royce now has more than a 50% share in all engines for A380 planes, and has supplied Emirates since 1996.
