City of Innovation showcases in the City of Culture

As Rory McIlroy basks in the glory of winning his third major title at the Open Championship at Royal Liverpool yesterday, the city was busy preparing to host the closing ceremony of the 2014 International Festival of Business.

Best known as the birthplace of the Beatles Liverpool is a city that has reinvented itself and its industrial heritage dates back to the 1800’s when Albert Dock was a thriving port. As the Liver Birds watched over, the city was at the heart of the post-war regeneration and has since evolved into a European city of culture.

Today Liverpool is the host city for Made in the UK conference and exhibition which was the perfect opportunity for Derby to showcase more than 300 years of technology and innovation. Derby is most certainly a city on the front foot when it comes to hi-tech engineering and it’s timeline is captured on the exhibition stand which features a blade from the Rolls-Royce Trent 1000, a front grill from the Toyota Auris Hybrid and a model of Bombardier’s Crossrail Aventa train, all ‘Made in Derby’.

Derby’s narrative is certainly getting a lot of attention and amongst TV cameras and flashes of photography we have had a stream of positive comments from delegates from across the UK.

Made in the UK, which boasts the largest collection of manufacturing speakers ever gathered by Insider Media, sees a huge wave of hi-tech engineers, innovative companies and advanced manufacturers that are proud to be British!
