Derby Kids Camp
We provide free holidays for over 300 local young children each year who need a break from the day-to-day challenges in their lives.
Around 50 local primary schools nominate the children they feel are most in need of a break. This can be for any reason, although some of the common ones we see are families facing financial challenges, bereavement, mental health problems, children being young carers, having difficulty with social interaction or a need for respite for the family.
The charity is entirely volunteer-run, with the holidays staffed by around 180 volunteers each summer. Throughout the year the charity is run by a voluntary management and trustee team, and dozens of volunteers join us to build and take down the camp every summer.
The children enjoy a week-long camping holiday in the Peak District, full of a whole range of activities including waterfights, trips, sports, magic shows, campfire songs, crafts and much more. There’s something to suit everyone and the children have a great time trying something new.
The holidays help children to try new things, meet new friends, develop independence and confidence, and most of all, create magical childhood memories that stay with them for a lifetime.
Being a Bondholder is a great opportunity to get to know more of the local community and be able to tell people about our work, as well as finding out more about what’s going on in the city and surrounding areas.
