MP helps young people dress to impress with donation
A Derby MP has shown her backing for YMCA Derbyshire by donating clothing to help its young people get into the world of work.
Amanda Solloway, MP for Derby North, has donated smart clothing that they can wear to job interviews and at work.
According to the charity, many of those living at the YMCA have no access to such clothing, which impacts on their confidence at job interviews and in the workplace.
Gillian Sewell, chief executive of YMCA Derbyshire, said: “There are many barriers along the road of gaining employment.
“Having a smart outfit to boost your confidence in an interview might seem insignificant to some, but it means the world to our young people.
“We’re so grateful for the support of key members of our community like Amanda.
“Donations like these are what enable our young people to find stability in work and live fully enriched lives.”
Amanda, who is founder of charity HeadHigh CIC, said: “Since starting HeadHigh, we have worked in partnership with YMCA Derbyshire to help make a difference and provide support within the community.
“By donating smart clothing, we hope to make a difference by empowering a young person to move onto their next step in life.”
YMCA Derbyshire is accepting donations of smart interview clothing and shoes.
Its team is curating a wardrobe of outfits so that all young people have the opportunity to feel good about themselves on their interview days.
