Derby tops premium retail league table
Derby has been named the amongst the top ten locations in the UK for premium retail opportunities – the only Midlands location to feature.
Ranking sixth and placing higher than all neighbouring cities in the Midlands, the report hails Derby as an excellent location for premium retail. In addition, the city ranked eighth in the overall top ten of the Hot 100 Retail Locations league table.
The study, carried out by CACI, looked at the relationship between luxury and premium brands and affluent Acorn groups. Acorn is a consumer classification, which segments the UK population analysing demographic data, social factors, population and consumer behaviour.
The study was commissioned by Property Week to look into the UK’s retail offer and found that the city was generally more affluent than the East Midlands average, and has a strong mass-market base to its retail offer with supporting premium and value brands.
With the introduction of Westfield (now Bondholder intu Derby) in 2008, the city’s retail landscape changed significantly. This, coupled with the resurgence of the Cathedral Quarter, has helped to create a premium retail offer in the city, which has recently attracted the likes of MAC, Yo! Sushi and White Stuff to Derby.
