Bombardier crowned 'Supplier of the Year'
Bondholder Bombardier Transportation has won the Transport Supplier of the Year award at this year’s National Transportation Awards.
The rail technology leader received the award in recognition of the delivery of the new sub-surface line fleet of Bombardier Movia S stock metro trains, which are part of London Underground’s Sub Surface Line investment programme.
The judges stated that the trains improved capacity (25% for the Circle Line), accessibility and comforted. This, along with a reduction in maintenance costs, helped to ensure Bombardier’s victory.
David Waboso, Capital Programmes Director at London Underground, said, “Our new trains built by Bombardier in Derby have created thousands of jobs in the UK and have proved an instant hit with our customers, and it’s not hard to see why. These comfortable, spacious, accessible, air-conditioned trains will soon be serving 40 per cent of the Tube network and are a major factor in making the sub-surface Tube lines fit for the demands of the future.”
Per Allmer, Head of Western Europe, Middle East and Africa region at Bombardier Transportation said, “This award is further industry recognition of this excellent product, which is designed and built in Derby. It also highlights the contribution and dedication of every member of our project and customer support teams involved with this programme”.
