Derby Libraries, which is part of Derby City Council, is looking for businesses to sponsor a children’s literacy event this summer.

The Summer Reading Challenge aims to fire up children’s imaginations and unleash storytelling and creativity through the power of reading.

Delivered in partnership with libraries, the event runs during the summer holidays and is free to take part.

Children need to read six books, which can be factual, fiction, joke books, picture books, audio books and eBooks – just as long as they are borrowed from the library. The challenge is aimed at children aged from four to 11, but younger and older children are welcome to join in too.

As well as taking part in the challenge, children and their families can have fun at free events at Derby Libraries.

The overall aim of the challenge, which is produced by the Reading Agency, is to maintain youngsters’ reading skills over the summer break.
