Teamwork sees trees planted at adventure centre
Mount Cook Adventure Centre has planted 1,800 trees at its Wirksworth site after teaming up with Derbyshire Wildlife Trust and a local business.
A wide selection of trees and shrubs, carefully selected by Derbyshire Wildlife Trust, were recently planted by a team of 20 volunteers, including staff from outdoor clothing brand RAB, over a six-hour period, completely transforming the landscape.
Mount Cook arranged the day as part of its corporate social responsibility offering, which gives businesses the chance to give back to the local community through engaging with the outdoors.
Businesses also have the opportunity to do some team building, taking part in outdoor activities like zip wire or climbing as a ‘thank you’ for any contributions.
The patch of land that has been planted overlooks the Ecclesbourne Valley on the edge of Wirksworth and has recently been acquired by “Into the Great Wide Open” to turn into a conservation project.
The tree planting will not only help re-wild the area for the wildlife that already inhabit the land but will also help hold water in the land and out of the River Ecclesbourne, helping to prevent flooding.
Madeline Horton, sales and marketing manager at Mount Cook, said: “It’s amazing to see such a passion among local businesses to give back to the community.
“At Mount Cook, we know getting outdoors and working together is great for building strong, productive teams, and being able to build lasting positive legacy through volunteering is really special.”
Another 200 trees are planned to be planted, alongside a wildflower meadow to encourage diverse insect and bird life.
