Firm receives Royal recognition for sustainable manufacturing
Midland Lead has been presented with its King’s Award for Enterprise recognising its commitment to sustainable manufacturing.
Back in May, it was announced that the Derbyshire firm was to receive a King’s Award for Sustainable Development.
Recently, the firm was presented with its award by the Lord-Lieutenant of Derbyshire Liz Fothergill CBE and Deputy Lord-Lieutenant Tony Walker CBE at a special celebration event.
Midland Lead’s Francoise Derksen and Boudewijn Tuinenburg accepted the award during a ceremony, which was attended by more than 80 guests, including suppliers, partners and team members.
The King’s Award is widely regarded as the highest accolade a business can receive.
Other recipients this year included HSG UK and Whitehouse Construction.
Midland Lead’s award recognises the firm as a sustainable manufacturer of recycled lead sheet – and for having a positive impact on its team, community and environment.
Employing nearly 40 people, the family-run firm was founded in 1983, and is the only UK manufacturer offering machine-cast lead sheet with an environmental product declaration (EPD).
The company was one of only 29 businesses across the UK to receive the Sustainable Development award this year.
Mrs Fothergill said: “It is with great pride and admiration that we’re all here to celebrate your exceptional achievements.
“This award is considered the highest accolade to be bestowed on any UK business—a symbol of excellence and perseverance.”
Paying tribute to the entire Midland Lead team, Boudewijn said: “This award would not have been possible without a true team effort.”
Francoise said: “A strong team is essential to driving real change within a company.
“We are fortunate to have a dedicated team that pushes the boundaries of what’s possible in our industry, with a clear focus on environmental responsibility.”
