Council’s events team relocates to new city centre location
Derby LIVE, along with its sales and information centre, have relocated to a new location in the city centre.
Derby City Council’s dedicated events team has moved into 19 Chapel Street, the former home of Déda.
The sales and information centre has also relocated from its previous location at the Guildhall Theatre, as preparations are made for the refurbishment of the Grade-II listed building.
Since Déda ceased to operate, the city council has been working to ensure arts organisations can continue to operate from 19 Chapel Street.
As owners of the building, the council has ensured normal access has continued for Hubbub, an integrated theatre company working with learning disabled adults and Derby College Group.
Council teams are carrying out the necessary checks to ensure the building is compliant and able to reopen fully to the public in the future.
Meanwhile, it continues to explore options for the building with partners and stakeholders, with the aim of maintaining 19 Chapel Street as a cultural and community asset for the city.
Councillor Nadine Peatfield, leader of Derby City Council, said: “Since we took the building back, I’m happy that we’ve been able to help the existing users and ensure they can carry on as normal.
“We’re also working hard to carry out the necessary checks to protect the building for the future and ensure its continued use.
“We recognise the huge value of cultural institutions to the vibrancy and wellbeing of our city, and we’re committed to keeping 19 Chapel Street as a cultural space for dance and the arts.
“We’re aiming to support increased use of the building in the new year.”
