Youth charity unveils refurbished main campus flats
YMCA Derbyshire has announced the completion of the refurbishment of residential flats at the main campus.
After 28 years since the completion of the original building project, the renovation at the London Road site enhances the living environment for residents.
The refurbishment includes significant upgrades to the flats, designed to improve comfort, functionality, and sustainability.
Key features include modernised living spaces with contemporary fixtures and furnishings, as well as energy efficiency improvements to reduce environmental impact and lower utility costs.
Gillian Sewell, chief executive at YMCA Derbyshire, said: “We are excited to present these refurbished flats to our community.
“This project underscores our dedication to providing safe, affordable, and sustainable housing solutions that empower our residents and support their well-being.
“We would like to thank Homes England for their support and funding towards the project.”
The refurbishment project is part of YMCA Derbyshire’s broader initiative to enhance its facilities and services, ensuring that they meet the evolving needs of the community.
The improved flats will offer a better quality of life for current and future residents, helping them to move to independence.
‘Scott’ was one of the first residents to move into the refurbished flats.
He said: “My flat is amazing and has everything I need. I have lived in shared accommodation before, and it was stressful sharing a kitchen and bathroom.
“Now I have my own space, I can move towards independent living.”
