Students to exhibit North Riverside designs at Derby City Lab
Architectural students from the University of Derby are set to exhibit their designs for a key city centre site at Derby City Lab.
The North Riverside Masterplans 2024 exhibition is set to take place at the lab, which is on Level 2 of the Derbion shopping centre, from Thursday 14 November to Wednesday 20 November.
It will see the students present their masterplan concepts for the redevelopment of North Riverside, an area bounded by St Alkmund’s Way and the River Derwent.
Each year Marketing Derby collaborates with the University of Derby to challenge its architecture students to create new ideas and visions for selected key city centre sites.
This year, students from the university’s architectural courses have come up with masterplan concepts for North Riverside.
Incorporating Darwin Place, Derwent Street, Stuart Street and Phoenix Street, the area is part of the Derby Riverside character zone.
Dr Boris Ceranic, senior lecturer and programme leader for MSc Architectural courses at the university, said: “The vision is to create a new city centre destination and a vibrant community offering new employment opportunities within a highly sustainable, high-quality mixed-use development on brownfield land which will fully exploit the riverside setting.
“There is an aspiration to improve quality of green spaces and present a new riverside setting, with a vibrant waterfront pedestrian realm within the heart of the city.
“The site will promote direct links to Riverlights and River Gardens, Cathedral Green, Market Place and Osnabruck Square.”
Adam Rodgers, inward investment executive at Marketing Derby and Derby City Lab lead, said: “We are delighted to welcome the University of Derby’s architectural students to the Derby City Lab to display their concepts for North Riverside.
“It promises to be a fascinating showcase, not just of what could be possible on this site, but also of the talent these students possess.”
