Theatre teams up with holiday centre to raise cash

Derby Theatre has teamed up with Derbyshire Children’s Holiday Centre to raise cash for both charities during its latest production.

Welfare, a new play currently running at the theatre until 12 October, tells the story of the Derbyshire Miners’ Holiday Camp at Skegness.

Alongside the show, the Welfare: Young People’s Appeal encourages theatregoers to make a donation, which would be split between the theatre, which is a registered charity, and the holiday centre.

Derby Theatre engages with more than 5,000 young people each year through its community programmes, offering funded places at its youth theatre, creative mentoring sessions for care experienced young people that help to develop confidence and tickets to see productions.

Derbyshire Children’s Holiday Centre provides a five-day holiday for more than 400 deserving children each year at their dedicated centre in Skegness.

In a statement, Derby Theatre said: “We believe that all children and young people deserve to have brilliant experiences, whether that is a visit to the theatre for the very first time or a much-needed holiday in Skegness.

“Please help us to raise vital funds that will allow us to offer brilliant experiences, respite and creative activities for disadvantaged young people from across Derby and Derbyshire.”
