New investment management firm launched
Baron & Grant Investment Management – a new Derbyshire-based financial planning, advice and investment management firm – has been launched.
Specialising in managing investment trust-focused portfolios, the new company is led by four men – including two who had links with Derbyshire County Cricket Club.
Chief executive Chris Grant is a former club chairman, while executive director Tom Poynton is a former player.
Together they have joined with chairman of the investment committee John Baron and chartered financial planner Mark Johnson, who heads up the financial planning and advice arm of the business, to form Baron & Grant.
According to the firm, it is planning to break the mould when it comes to investment management, by focusing on investment trusts when managing clients’ portfolios, which will be complemented with exchange traded funds.
Chris, who is an award-winning investment analyst who enjoyed a successful 20-year career in the City, said: “We simply don’t buy into the impediments that are often cited by other investment managers for not using investment trusts.
“Our research confirms we can build portfolios of a sufficient scale and diversity to satisfy our clients.”
John said: “We are focusing on investment trusts because of their superior performance relative to both unit trusts and the indices.
“Clients are already benefiting, and we now look forward to the next phase of the company’s development.”
