Artwork helps spruce up accommodation facility
A new artwork installation supplied by Artcore is helping to brighten up an emergency accommodation facility in Derby.
The art charity has provided artwork to the recently decorated Milestone House, which is a 43-bed facility in Green Lane.
Julia Sharpe, manager at Milestone House, said: “The newly painted walls looked fresh, but they were so plain.
“We wanted to add a level of interest to make it brighter for our customers, who are homeless and are accommodated at Milestone House while waiting for a more permanent address.
“The installation is 42 colourful individually designed and decorated canvases, each measuring 20cm by 20cm, to create a stunning mural.”
Phoebe Shaw, Artcore’s community programme producer, said: “The artwork for Milestone House was created by 30 participants of Artcore’s community art workshops under the expert guidance of lead artists Martin Hyde, Jane Dearden, Kathryn Borg and Caroline Ainsworth.
“The images act as a symbol of unity and creativity and are dedicated to Milestone House.
“These creations embody the spirit of collaboration and compassion that defines our community.”
