The chief executive of Derby City Council is to share the latest updates on the city’s plans to build back better at the forthcoming Derby Property Summit.

Paul Simpson will be among the keynote speakers at the event, which is set to take place on Wednesday, 14 July.

Showcasing the city’s investment pipeline and future opportunities, as well as keynote speakers, the property summit will feature panel discussions and networking.

Paul took up the role of chief executive at the city council in March last year – and it was something of a baptism of fire as, just a few days after being appointed, the UK went into its first lockdown.

In response to the economic challenges posed by the pandemic, the Derby Economic Recovery Taskforce was formed, with Paul and the city council playing a key role in formulating a plan to help the city bounce back.

The strategy was built around three key areas: maintaining confidence among local businesses and external investors, diversifying the city centre and Derby’s employment base and decarbonising the city.

In October, Derby also launched a brand new Investment Prospectus and film at the first ever Midlands UK Forum for Growth.

The prospectus outlines 17 key investment opportunities in Derby, worth over £1.2 billion with the potential to create 8,000 jobs.

Great progress has already been made on many of the projects featured in the prospectus – and at the property summit, Paul is expected to give an update on these schemes – and the opportunities that lie ahead.

Registrations are now open for the Derby Property Summit, which this year will be a hybrid event.

Once again, business journalist Declan Curry will assume hosting duties – and will be joined by speakers including Paul, as well as representatives from investors St James Securities and Cale Street, who between them account for £500 million of investment in Derby.

The networking element will take place in the award-winning Market Place Al Fresco Dining Experience, with the conference held in the comfort of the QUAD cinema.

For safety and to facilitate quality networking, numbers will be limited to 120 delegates attending in person, with unlimited numbers online. Over 300 delegates are already booked in.

Tickets to the live event and face-to-face networking area are limited to event sponsors. To find out more about sponsorship opportunities e-mail Katie Wells at katie.wells@marketingderby.co.uk.
