Rams bed down for sleepovers at city centre businesses
Businesses across the Cathedral Quarter and St Peters Quarter Business Improvement Districts are showcasing their own flock of mini ram characters as part of this summer’s Derby Ram Trail.
The Great Ram Sleepover runs until Saturday 26 June and features 10 mini ram characters, who will stay in a business for four nights before moving to another business window for the next four nights.
All 10 rams have taken on their own character thanks to the crafting skills of Cathedral Quarter BID project executive Eve Taylor who has made the costumes.
They are: Chef RAMsay, RAMesh RAMganathan, SuperRAM, Edward ScissorRAM, Ed SheeRAM;,Lewis RAMilton, Freddie MercuRAM, RAMadona, RAMuel L Jackson and RAMbo.
Visitors are invited to find them and share on social media using the hashtag #GRSCQDerby.
The standard rams can be purchased for £12 each, alongside other Derby Ram Trail-themed merchandise, available at Derby Museums.
Rescheduled from last summer, The Derby Ram Trail has been brought to the city by Derby Museums, in partnership with Wild in Art.
The public sculpture event features 30 individually painted 5ft tall rams, threading through the city centre. The Ram Trail runs until 22 August.
The Cathedral Quarter BID is the presenting partner and St Peters Quarter BID is the trail partner for the project.
In a joint statement, Martin Langsdale MBE, chair of the Cathedral Quarter BID and Helen Wathall MBE, chair of St Peters Quarter BID, said: “The Derby Ram Trail 2021 is already attracting visitors back into the city centre and into businesses in the BID areas.
“We wanted to create additional activities to mark the trail and Eve has done an incredible job creating these wonderful mini ram characters for the Great Ram Sleepover.
“It is just another way of adding to the fun of the Derby Ram Trail, which has brought much-needed colour, pride and sense of community to the city centre this summer.”
