Toyota scoops top manufacturing award
Toyota Manufacturing UK has triumphed at awards which celebrate the region’s manufacturing sector.
The car giant, which manufactures the Corolla at its plant in Burnaston, Derbyshire, scooped the Automotive, Aerospace & Rail Award at the recent Made in the Midlands Awards, organised by Insider.
The awards recognise the products, innovations and ideas from the region’s manufacturers over the past 12 months.
In recent years, the Burnaston plant has been developing a hydrogen-powered version of the Toyota Hilux.
On Toyota, the judges said: “This is a global business using the skills and talent of the Midlands’ automotive sector to help put the UK in the driving seat when it comes to hydrogen-fuelled vehicles.”
Also shortlisted was Derby-based medical products manufacturer Pennine Healthcare, which was a finalist in the Manufacturer of the Year (under £25m) category.
