A new taskforce led by Derby City Council has been set up to address short-term issues in the city centre.

Chaired by Councillor Nadine Peatfield, the city council’s cabinet member for city centre, regeneration, culture and tourism, it is made up of key partners, including Marketing Derby.

The taskforce aims to address challenges such as safety, empty shops and the quality of the city centre streets.

The group will identify a number of short-term achievable tasks that will contribute towards increasing footfall in the city centre and making it a better place.

Examples include temporary wayfinding across the city and developing an action plan with partners to tackle issues such as begging.

Councillor Peatfield, who recently chaired the taskforce’s first meeting, said: “There is lots going on in Derby at the moment with some major construction projects underway.

“We’ll be working with stakeholders across the city centre to focus on short term quick wins, which will make our city centre an attractive place to be while our longer-term plans come on stream.”
