Derby Grammar School has been acquired by a learning group in a move which will help it realise its long-term ambitions.

The independent school, which educates girls and boys aged between four and 18, has been bought by Inspired Learning Group (ILG).

Through this new partnership, the school, which was originally founded in 1160 as Derby School, stands to benefit from significant investment in enhancing its facilities.

It also promises to enhance its professional development opportunities and build on its existing high standards of teaching and learning.

ILG was chosen as the ideal partner for the school, due to its shared vision, values and strong track record in providing a world-class education.

It is comprised of 24 independent schools and nurseries, and more than 1,000 staff supporting over 3,000 pupils with an advisory board chaired by David Tidmarsh, former headmaster of St Martin’s, Northwood.

Going forward ILG will work closely with Derby Grammar School head Paul Logan and his team, to support them in delivering their vision to offer pupils the best possible learning experience and outcomes.

Mr Logan said: “Visitors to Derby Grammar School are struck by its warmth, family feel and sense of community.

“Staff are committed to promoting the well-being and ensuring excellent all-round intellectual development of all our pupils.

“We are proud of our academic achievements and our extensive extra and co-curricular programmes.

“All of our decisions have been made with the best interests of our school community in mind, and I am excited that we are about to embark on this new chapter as part of the ILG family.”

Derby Grammar School will officially become part of ILG on 28 March.

Amit Mehta, chief executive of Inspired Learning Group, said: “We are delighted to welcome Derby Grammar School into the Inspired Learning Group family and very much look forward to supporting the school in providing a stimulating and highly nurturing education that enables every pupil to thrive in an ever-changing global environment.”
