A director at Tidyco is to attempt a gruelling 100-mile run to raise cash for University Hospitals of Derby and Burton.

Philip Mason, who is a production director at the Derby manufacturer, is aiming to cover the distance, from Warrington to Shardlow, within 24 hours.

He is aiming to raise £5,000, which will be donated to the Burton branch of the cancer services department.

Philip has chosen this particular cause because a couple of Tidyco employees have recently used the service.

And due to the outstanding and compassionate care they received, he has decided that he would like to repay them by raising cash from his run.

For the past six months, he has been training hard for the challenge, backed by a range of businesses and individuals, including Sarah Ball, of Balls2Marketing, Dean Jackson, of HUUB Design and Greg Whyte, from the University of Derby.

He will begin at Warrington Bank Quay station in Warrington and cover seven miles to Preston Brook; the start of the Trent and Mersey Canal.

He will then follow the entire length of the Trent and Mersey Canal to Shardlow, which is a further 93 miles.

He will cover 100 miles in total, which is just shy of four marathons.

Philip said: “Doing 100 miles in 24 hours or less is always going to be difficult on the day and during the training.

“When I am struggling, I always think back to the people who are currently battling with cancer and the treatment that they must go through.

“If running 100 miles means providing better equipment for our local hospital it will have been worth the effort.“

Philip is now on the lookout for eight businesses who would like to support the challenge by becoming shirt and event sponsors. For more information e-mail marketing@tidyco.co.uk.
