Cleaning firm hails stellar year as Rising Star
Commercial cleaning start-up Upbeat Clean has enjoyed an “amazing year” as Marketing Derby’s Rising Star after landing a string of new contracts across the city.
Last year, during the inward investment promotion agency’s Annual Business Event, held at Derby Theatre, the social enterprise was announced as the winner of the competition, which recognises innovative new businesses.
Founded by existing Bondholder Upbeat Communities, Upbeat Clean combines a cleaning service with life-changing employment.
It was launched to enable refugee women to access training and rebuild their lives through real living wage employment.
It supports refugees from all over the world who come to Derby – including those who have come from war-torn Ukraine.
Since becoming Rising Star, Upbeat has secured contracts with a range of organisations, including Vaillant and Getinge, which have both opened new buildings at St. Modwen Park Derby, a new development created by St. Modwen Logistics.
It has also started partnering with Reach Events, Derby Museums, Derby City Mission and Smith of Derby, along with Morgan Sindall and Liversage Trust.
Michael Gladwell, head of enterprise at Upbeat Clean, said: “We’ve had an amazing year since being named as Marketing Derby’s Rising Star.
“As a result, we have doubled the number of people we employ to 30, the majority of whom are from refugee backgrounds.
“This has resulted in many refugees and survivors of modern-day slavery getting employed for the first time.”
The Rising Star for 2024 will be announced at Marketing Derby’s forthcoming Annual Business Event, which will once again take place at Derby Theatre, on 20 February.
