Four students at Derby College Group have been recognised for their commitment and dedication while serving as police cadets.

In a recent ceremony, Derbyshire Constabulary and Theresa Peltier, the High Sheriff of Derbyshire, recognised the quartet, who are all currently on the college’s Public Service Diploma Course.

The honoured students, who have each served seven years as cadets, were recognised for demonstrating unwavering commitment and passion, as well as showing the values of integrity, discipline and community service.

Abi Ward (16), from Spondon, was chosen from 85 cadets to be the winner of Police Cadet of the Year.

There were also awards for Euan Waterfall (17), Luke Preston (18) and Luke’s sister Ruby (16).

Abi said “It is a real honour to receive this award. I love being a cadet and being able to help people.

“I have learned so much since being a cadet and in the future, I would like to go to university and then join the Special Constabulary. I then hope to become a police dog handler.”

Theresa Peltier, the High Sheriff of Derbyshire, said: “I’m always amazed at the determination and commitment of all the police cadets.

“Well done to Abi for being recognised for all her hard work and positive attitude and also to Euan, Luke and Ruby and all of the cadets for their support. It is so appreciated.”
