Bondholders urged to take part in food donation initiative

Derby Food 4 Thought Alliance is encouraging Marketing Derby Bondholders to take part in a festive initiative, which aims to encourage people to donate food to struggling families in the city.

It has partnered with Derby County Community Trust to launch its Reverse Advent Calendar, which challenges participants to collect certain food items over a period of 25 days, starting on Monday 13 November and ending on Thursday 7 December.

At the end of the 25 days, people can donate the items at the following collection points: Harrison’s Hub, at Derby County’s Pride Park Stadium on Wednesday 6 December, from 12noon to 3pm and Thursday 7 December from 4pm to 6pm, Morrison’s Meteor Centre Derby and Asda Sinfin during store opening hours.

DF4TA has drawn up a list of items it would like donated, which can be found on its website.

Last Christmas, DF4TA, which works to tackle food insecurity, delivered more than 2,000 food parcels across Derby.

According to the charity, families are particularly struggling this year due to the cost-of-living crisis.

It currently works with 13 foodbanks across the city – and from May to August it provided 7,647 food parcels, totalling 103,527 meals, with a retail value of £189,263.

In a statement, DF4TA said: “We are partnering with Derby County Community Trust and asking for donations of food and treats to help us reach our target of a happy Christmas for every individual and family in Derby.

“There are around 250,000 people in Derby – if everyone gave just one item, we would have 250,000 items to distribute.

“The items that are donated must be of a quality you would be happy to receive.

“One donated we will then distribute them equally throughout our foodbanks to ensure an even spread of support throughout the city.”
