Artcore has returned to the Derby City Lab for a series of creative workshops, producing art which celebrates the city’s diversity.

Currently taking place at the St James’s Street venue, the Cultural Threads Project involves printmaking and pottery sessions, all of which are delivered free of charge.

The sessions use a fusion of colour, fabric and pattern, to create art which explores the richness of cultures present within in our communities.

Participants are invited to join the workshops, which will take place between now and Friday 10 November.

The sessions are aimed at adults, but participants are welcome to bring along children (aged six and over recommended).

In a statement Artcore said: “Cultural Threads is an immersive and sensory celebration of Derby’s cultural diversity using a fusion of colours, fabric, clay and print, creating artwork from different cultures.

“The threads within this creative intervention will be symbolic and represent the communities of our cities, focusing on how they are interwoven through ‘place’ but also sharing certain commonalities with their cultures.”

It is the second time that Artcore has occupied the lab, which was established to inspire, engage and inform the public about the city’s regeneration.

In August and September, it held an extension to its highly successful Building Bridges exhibition, which celebrated and explored the city’s twinning link with Osnabruck.

Adam Rodgers, inward investment executive at Marketing Derby and Derby City Lab lead, said: “We are delighted to welcome Artcore back to Derby City Lab.

“Derby is a multicultural city – and we are delighted to host this series of workshops, producing art which celebrates Derby’s cultural diversity.”
