£1 billion milestone

Bondholder Bowmer+Kirkland has reported a turnover for the last financial year which tops £1 billion, up from £937.5m the previous year, and gets named in the Sunday Times HSBC Top Track 100 league.

The company has worked on some high-profile projects including St George’s Park, near Burton, Warner Bros Studios, Bondholder Derby Arena and the National Performance Centre for Sport in Edinburgh.

In the East Midlands, Bowmer+Kirkland is currently building the Moorways Sports Village for fellow Bondholder Derby City Council, HMRC’s new regional centre in Nottingham, a customer fulfilment centre at Summit Park, near Mansfield, an extension to Fosse Park shopping destination at Leicester, phase one of Space Park, Leicester and a cinema and retail complex at Beeston.

The company's pre-tax profits also increased from £54.5m to £73.1m.

Chairman Jack Kirkland, said: “Our strong cash position enables us to act quickly and we continue to seek out equity funding opportunities. Our construction companies again performed well in all sectors and in all regions.

“I am grateful to our clients, both long-standing and new, for placing their trust in us. Our supply-chain partners are vital in delivering our projects and we are committed to building long-term relationships and treating them fairly.”

Moreover, Bowmer+Kirkland won a place on Covid-19 edition of Britain’s biggest private companies league table, among other 12 Midlands firms.

Recently published, the 19th annual Sunday Times HSBC Top Track 100 league table ranks Britain’s 100 private companies with the biggest sales, and before Covid-19 struck, highlighting their continuing contribution to the economy at this difficult time

Speaking about the current Covid-19 crisis, Kirkland added: “The lockdown that the coronavirus pandemic necessitated is beginning to ease; it is still too soon to tell how large an impact there will be on the markets in which we operate but I am confident that with our exceptional staff and sound balance sheet we are in a strong position to withstand any challenges and take advantage of any opportunities in the coming months and years.”
