Architects hail planning success for office project
Matthew Montague Architects is celebrating after securing planning permission for the refurbishment of the headquarters of a growing Derbyshire IT firm.
Last year, the firm lodged proposals with Chesterfield Borough Council for a comprehensive revamp of Old Birdholme House, in Derby Road, Chesterfield.
The building is the HQ of CCS Media, a technology and supplies reseller, which has been based in Chesterfield since it was established almost 40 years ago.
Matthew Montague Architects was instructed by the firm to prepare a detailed scheme for the sensitive alteration and refurbishment of the Grade II-listed building, parts of which date back to the late 17th century.
Now, the borough council has granted planning permission for internal structural alterations and major refurbishment of the property.
In a statement, Matthew Montague Architects said: “The refurbishment of the 330 sq metre building was specifically developed for our client to enable them to create facilities that will carry the business forward for the foreseeable future and cement their position as a major employer in the Chesterfield area by providing facilities that enable the business to retain and strengthen the workforce; creating and sustaining employment.
“The refurbishment will see an increase in open plan working spaces, improved accessibility and diversity, provision of a new, large, flexible training space and more intelligent energy efficiency.
“At the same time, it will retain, expose and display more of the historic features of the building.
“The planning application was dealt with efficiently by Chesterfield Borough Council and we are delighted with the approval. Works will begin on site later in the year.”
