Toyota hails UK car sales records
Toyota has said it succeeded in setting new records in key areas of its UK new car sales during 2022.
End of year group sales at the firm, which has its car manufacturing plant at Burnaston, near Derby, placed Toyota third among car manufacturers in the UK, its highest placing yet, with a record 6.61% market share.
This was achieved against a backdrop of supply issues that have impacted on the global motor industry.
Alternative fuel vehicles – hybrid electric, plug-in hybrid electric, fuel cell electric and battery electric – accounted for 75% of all new Toyota brand sales.
Toyota Manufacturing UK Ltd produces the hybrid Corolla at Burnaston – and this year will be making the new Corolla range, as well as continuing to produce the award-winning Corolla Commercial – Europe’s first self-charging hybrid electric van.
Mark Roden, operations director at Toyota (GB), said: “Despite the supply issues which our entire industry has had to deal with, we continue to perform strongly thanks to the quality of our products, the introduction of competitive new models and the increasing appeal of our hybrid electric and plug-in hybrid technology as an affordable, accessible and practical way for people to help reduce overall carbon emissions.”
