Derbion announces return of charity initiative

Derbion has announced the return of an initiative which sees it back local charities – and is inviting worthy causes to put themselves forward.

The shopping and leisure destination ran Derbion Cares for the first time last year.

It supported YMCA Derbyshire, RSPCA Derby & District and Safe and Sound with more £37,000 worth of support, including over 180 hours of Derbion staff volunteer time, sponsorships, fundraising, facilitated donations and free space in-centre.

Derbion is now searching for one local charity partner for the year ahead, which will allow the centre to focus its community efforts throughout the year.

East Midlands-based charities can apply to be Derbion’s chosen charity for 2023 online at www.derbion.com.

Once applications are closed, the Derbion Cares Committee will review the applications and select a charity to support for 2023, with the successful charity announced by the end of March.

Following the selection process, the committee will then devise a calendar of events to support the charity.

Adam Tamsett, centre director at Derbion, said: “After a successful first year of Derbion Cares, which has provided real value to the community in Derby, we’re thrilled to announce that the initiative will return for a second year in 2023.

“In 2023 we want to elevate the Derbion Cares initiative to have an even greater impact on the community, and we hope that through channelling our resources into supporting one chosen charity we can deliver a higher level of support and create a lasting impact on the charity and local community.

“We know that the local area has hundreds of worthy charities that would benefit from the support of Derbion Cares, so we’re especially looking for registered charities that are based in Derby and Derbyshire that give support to our community and support the next generation to building a better future – examples could include, but are not limited to, mental health, health, education, employment, children services and social welfare.

“The centre has a long history of supporting local charities and is the headline sponsor of Run for All’s Ramathon for a second year, and we see this activity as an extension of the fantastic work that the team already undertakes.”

Applications for Derbion Cares will close on Sunday 29 January.
