Animal shelter’s festive appeal

RSPCA Derby & District has launched a festive appeal for donations to help it buy essentials for the animals in its care.

The independent charity, which is almost entirely funded by donations from the public, has launched the appeal called ‘Be Their Someone’.

Its Abbey Street centre rescues, rehabilitates and rehomes around 1,000 animals every year, many of which have suffered terrible experiences or have simply been abandoned.

The charity is now appealing for donations of £5 to fund food, blankets and toys for its animals.

In a statement, the charity said: “For many of the animals with us, this may be the first Christmas they’ve spent in a safe environment with the empathy and care our expert team so lovingly provide.

“We want to ensure this time of year is extra special for all the animals who find themselves in our care, through no fault of their own – your kindness and generosity will help so many animals.”
