Poet Jamie’s fitting finale

Official Derby County poet Jamie Thrasivoulou provided a fitting finale to the first ever Bondholder Spotlight event with a rousing rendition of his ‘We are Derby’ poem.

Jamie, an award-winning writer/educator hailing from Allenton, became the Rams’ poet after his work was brought to the attention of the club via social media.

Before performing the poem at Spotlight, he shared how he got into poetry and how he once had his work critiqued by former Derby County manager Frank Lampard and the team.

Jamie, who teaches poetry and creative writing within a variety of settings, from primary schools to prisons, also talked about a new community interest company he has recently founded called Word Wise Education CIC.

Word Wise is currently looking for investment and to form partnerships with local businesses and communities with an aim of delivering creative writing and literacy projects within Derby, Derbyshire, and the Midlands.

The University of Derby associate lecturer then finished with his poem, which describes Derby and its people with such lines as “artistic souls and working minds”, “entrepreneurship exemplified” and “our people possess the spark”.
