New art installation will mean the Earth

Derby Cathedral is urging Bondholders to give their backing to a forthcoming new art installation, which will see a large model of the earth suspended in its nave.

Following on from the spectacular Peace Doves installation, which is currently installed at the cathedral, it intends to bring Gaia, an art installation by Luke Jerram, to the city from 22 September to 16 October, to coincide with Derby Feste.

Gaia is a 6-metre in diameter art installation, depicting our planet using NASA imagery. The exhibit has already been displayed in some UK cathedrals and around the world.

The cathedral is planning to run a programme of supporting events programme throughout the installation and create wrap-around activities with young people to enhance the themes presented by Gaia.

To help fund the arrival of Gaia, the cathedral is looking for businesses and organisations to support the project through sponsorship.
