Hundreds sign up for lessons at new sports village
More than 500 people have already signed up for swimming lessons at Derby City Council’s new Moorways Sports Village, which is due to open later this month.
According to Everyone Active, which will run the centre in partnership with the city council, hundreds have signed up for lessons at the complex, which will open its doors on Saturday 21 May.
The centre is now taking bookings for the water park, which includes a wave-creating Wow ball, two four-storey flumes, a wave rider, racer slide and water play area. Bookings are also being taken for casual swimming.
Simon Morgan, Everyone Active’s contract manager, said: “It’s great to see swimming lessons proving so popular at this early stage and we look forward to welcoming many more people on board in the coming weeks.”
Claire Davenport, the city council’s director of leisure, culture and tourism, said: “We’re delighted that there is a lot of excitement in our city around the much-anticipated opening of Moorways Sports Village and that swimming lessons are booking fast.
“Thanks to a great team, we have built one of the best leisure facilities in the country, providing something special for Derby and with Everyone Active on board as our leisure operating partner, it’s wonderful to see so much demand for activities already being met.”
