Bus operator trentbarton has said that its services are almost fully back to timetables last provided before the coronavirus crisis forced the first national lockdown over a year ago.

The firm said that only some night-time and Sunday services are still operating on a reduced timetable.

Trentbarton said that non-essential retail and outdoor eating and drinking are driving customer numbers up, as is a return to education and work by people who had been learning or working at home.

However, customer number are still substantially down on pre-Covid, so on most journeys there is plenty of space on board for customers to socially distance.

Jeff Counsell, trentbarton managing director, said: “Whether it’s going back to the shops, eating out, getting a haircut, going back to university or returning to the office, customers are increasingly returning to our services.

“As further lockdown restrictions are eased along the Government’s roadmap, we are anticipating demand for bus travel to continue to rise. We will be there to help everyone get back to normal.”
