St Peters Quarter raises cash for Derby's NHS heroes
Businesses in Derby’s St Peters Quarter Business Improvement District (BID) have raised hundreds of pounds to support the work of the Royal Derby Hospital Intensive Care Unit.
The money was collected by businesses across the BID area and online over the summer, including through the innovative MonsterHero Safari Trail, which was a high street story-trail experience organised by the BID.
The cheque for £550 was presented to the Derby and Burton Hospitals Charity BID board member Chris Memmott, who is a local director for Nationwide Building Society.
He said: “As we started to emerge from the first lockdown, businesses in St Peters Quarter were keen to promote the area to visitors and to do something positive for the local community.
“It was collectively decided to support the Royal Derby Hospital Intensive Care Unit through the Derby and Burton Hospitals Charity, which continues to be under so much pressure.
“The response from the public to the MonsterHero Safari Trail was extremely positive, as was the generosity of the public who donated to this great cause at the various collection points across the city centre businesses.”
Derby and Burton Hospitals Charity head of fundraising Mark Bennett said: “We are very grateful for the support from the city centre businesses, which will go towards buying a portable bladder scanner in the Intensive Care Unit at the Royal Derby Hospital.”
For the MonsterHero Safari Trail, families were tasked with hunting down the monster superheroes, displayed in public windows – scanning QR codes as they walked through the area to learn about each character and then unlock a free e-book once all 10 MonsterHeroes were found.
