Derby and Derbyshire are set to be showcased to an audience of global investors later this month as part of the inaugural Midlands UK Forum for Growth.

The trade and investment event, which will be held entirely on a digital platform from November 24 to 26, will bring together key stakeholders to help achieve the region’s vision for greater sustainable growth and economic prosperity.

Local authorities, universities, businesses, government and investors will be given a platform to meet and develop relationships, collaborate and share best practice, as well as generate investment and new business.

Among them will be representatives from Derby and Derbyshire, who will showcase a number of key investment opportunities across the city and county.

John Forkin, managing director of Marketing Derby, said: “Once we realised that face-to-face events would not be possible in 2020 we supported this event as we thought it really important to continue to raise the area's profile with potential investors.”

Hosted by the Midlands Engine Partnership and organised by the Movers & Shakers Property Networking Forum, the event will see public and private organisations from the across the region, along with international investors, given a comprehensive insight into the region’s strategy, policy and plans for sustainable growth.

They will also gain an insight into the investment opportunities in Derby and Derbyshire, with the region’s team promoting schemes which have the potential to boost the local economy.

A new online prospectus, showcasing all of Derby's investment opportunities, has been compiled and will be launched at the event, supported by a new film, put together by Marketing Derby and Purpose Media.

The spotlight on Derby’s investment opportunities will take place on the morning of day one of the three day event, on Tuesday 24th November.

It will be delivered by Derby City Council’s deputy leader and cabinet member for regeneration, planning and transportation, Councillor Matthew Holmes and the city council’s chief executive, Paul Simpson.

And Councillor Barry Lewis, leader of Derbyshire County Council and cabinet member for strategic leadership, culture and tourism, will be part of a panel debate taking place on Thursday 26th November, which will discuss 'How does the Midlands develop the Visitor Economy – post Covid-19'.

John Forkin said: “Investors like to see political support and so we are delighted that both the county and city councils understand the importance of this and are presenting at the forum.”

Sir John Peace, chairman of the Midlands Engine, said: “Right now, as the world continues to fight Covid-19 and we all face our own regional and national challenges, we also have an opportunity to build back stronger, better and greener.

“The theme for Midlands UK reflects this: ‘The Future. Ours to Make’.

“It recognises that, as part of fulfilling the incredible potential for growth in the Midlands, championed by the Midlands Engine, investment in sustainable infrastructure, our region’s businesses and our position at the heart of a green recovery are vitally important.”
