Fans of Bondholder Derby County Football Club who have bought the club’s new third kit are being encouraged to wear it tomorrow in aid of Breast Cancer Now.

At the start of this month, the Rams unveiled its new Umbro third kit for the 2020/21 season with the help of members of the first-team squad and special guests from Bondholder Derby County Community Trust’s Active Recovery Programme.

The third kit’s colours proudly support Breast Cancer Now’s ‘wear it pink’ fundraising campaign.

This month, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the first team has worn the kit at away fixtures against Norwich City and Huddersfield Town.

Since going on sale, Derby County and Umbro have donated £5 from the full sale price of every adult third shirt and £3 from the sale of every child third shirt to Breast Cancer Now.

On Friday 23rd October, thousands of people across the UK will dress up for wear it pink to raise vital funds for Breast Cancer Now, which is a research and care charity.

The money raised will help Breast Cancer Now make possible world-class breast cancer research and life-changing care for everyone affected by breast cancer.

Sami Colenutt, head of mass participation at Breast Cancer Now, said: “We want to say a huge thank you to Derby County Football Club for supporting wear it pink.

“The money raised will help Breast Cancer Now continue to make possible vital breast cancer research and care – at a time when they have never been needed more.

“Covid-19 is having a devastating impact on breast cancer and for many months has paused our research, community support services and much of our fundraising too.

“As such, there has never been a more vital time to grab that pink tie, pull on that pink tutu, or don that pink football shirt and take part in wear it pink on October 23 to help us to raise urgently needed funds for Breast Cancer Now.

“The money raised will help us to continue to carry out world-class breast cancer research and to support people affected by the disease. Please register now at visit wearitpink.org.”

Under the umbrella of the club’s ‘Stay Safe. Stay Fit. Stay Connected’ campaign, several participants from Derby County Community Trust’s Active Recovery Programme, all of whom have had a previous breast cancer diagnosis, helped launch the new third kit.

Steph Thompson, who runs the community trust’s Active Recovery Programme, said: “It’s a huge honour for us to be able to deliver a project that supports participants through their recovery and helps raise money for Breast Cancer Now.

“The opportunity to support the release of the Derby County third kit is incredible. The women involved have been through so much and have suffered a huge range of side effects from breast cancer, including the knock-on effects like a lack of self-esteem.

“The chance for these women to be recognised at such a level by the club and players and to be given the chance to be the face of the new kit is brilliant. We can’t wait to see them become local celebrities!”

The Derby County third kit is available from the DCFCMegastore and online at DCFCMegastore.co.uk with £5 from the full sale price of every Adult third shirt and £3 from the full sale price of every Junior third shirt sold throughout October donated to Breast Cancer Now.
