Taking the High road

Former High Sheriff of Derbyshire, Lord William Burlington, is to undertake an epic 208 mile bike ride in one day to raise awareness and funds for Bondholder Foundation Derbyshire.

Due to undertake the ride in March 2020, but put on hold as a result of lockdown, William Burlington and his team are now going to complete the mission around the Derbyshire boundary on Saturday 12th September.

Starting in Sudbury, the circular route will take Lord Burlington, Chancellor of Bondholder the University of Derby and whose family seat Chatsworth House is part of fellow Bondholder The Devonshire Group's portfolio, through Whaley Bridge, South Normanton and Swadlincote.

Bondholder HUUB, who is supportive of sports in Derbyshire, is donating bespoke jerseys for the ride, which they also helped design.

Lord Burlington said: “A sincere thank you to all who have supported the ride so far. Thinking beyond our ride, it’s fantastic to see so much of the community working together at the difficult time. Long may that spirit continue.”

Foundation Derbyshire's Chief Executive, Rachael Grime, added: “This is a Herculean undertaking and we are delighted and humbled that the High Sheriff and his fellow cyclists are supporting us in this way.

“Over the past twenty three years, we have distributed over £15 million to local voluntary groups and organisations, but there is still so much more to do. There are many ways to support the bike ride, from making a donation, to becoming a Foundation Friend or simply spreading the word and we hope that people will be inspired to get involved and to help us.”
