Over 500 people logged on to watch Marketing Derby’s first ever online Annual Business Event (ABE) – the investment promotion agency’s biggest event of the year, which premiered on Friday morning.

Traditionally, the ABE takes place at Derby Theatre in front of an audience of more than 500 people.

However, this year, due to government restrictions, the event, which reflects on the past 12 months, as well as future prospects, was held online.

Taking the form of an hour-long film, produced with AV-IT Media, it looked back at the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on the city, while also setting out why Derby has a positive future going forward as it emerges from the crisis.

Entitled ‘From Darkness, Through Light and To Hope’, it features a mix of films, presentations and the popular Dare to Dream slot.

Among the features are interviews with Paul Simpson, chief executive of Derby City Council, Reverend Julio Abraham, chief executive of Derby City Mission, Ruth Hobbs, director of Urban Sister Developments and Liv Pritchard, director of Bustler Market.

They talk about the impact the pandemic had on them – and how they responded to it.

In the film, we also meet the winner of this year’s Marketing Derby Rising Star Competition – The Swap Shop – and the collection of runners-up known as the “galaxy”.

The ABE film concludes with a surprise ending, described as a Tik Tok of Hope.
